SENabling Education is recruiting for a client based in London for an experienced SENCO to lead the strategic and operational development of SEND provision across the school.

This role requires a knowledgeable and highly organised practitioner who can translate the SEND Code of Practice into effective classroom support, strong statutory processes and improved outcomes for pupils.

The successful candidate will work closely with school leaders, teachers, families and external professionals to ensure that pupils’ needs are identified early and met consistently.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the school’s strategic approach to SEND and inclusion.
• Maintain an accurate and effective SEND register.
• Coordinate assessments, interventions and provision mapping.
• Lead EHCP applications, annual reviews and statutory processes.
• Monitor the quality and impact of SEND support across the school.
• Advise teachers on adaptive teaching and inclusive classroom practice.
• Support staff with identifying and responding to additional needs.
• Coordinate external professionals, therapists and local-authority services.
• Build effective relationships with pupils, parents and carers.
• Ensure SEND policies remain current and compliant.
• Contribute to school improvement planning and inspection preparation.
• Manage SEND resources, documentation and relevant funding.
• Provide training, coaching and guidance to teaching and support staff.

The successful candidate will demonstrate

• Qualified-teacher status or an appropriate recognised qualification.
• The National Award for SEN Coordination, NPQ for SENCOs, or eligibility to complete the required qualification.
• Strong knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and EHCP processes.
• Experience supporting pupils with a range of additional needs.
• Confidence working with families and multidisciplinary professionals.
• Strong organisation, communication and record-keeping skills.
• The ability to influence teaching practice and lead whole-school improvement.

Experience within autism, SEMH, complex needs, specialist education or alternative provision may be advantageous depending on the setting.
